                                 Fires

We have had quite a few emails from customers and complete strangers wanting to know if we are safe from the fires.

Firstly, I wish to thank you all for your concern for our wellbeing, it is very considerate and we appreciate your thoughts and kind words.

We are situated in the Upper Yarra Valley, very close to Warburton.
We did experience burnt leaves and debris falling around us back on that horrendous day the fires began, thankfully they were cold.

At the moment the situation here in the Valley is quite simply in the hands of the weather gods. We have fires all around us in the nearby mountains and given the right conditions could flare up and become a concern.

Unfortunately, these fires have the capacity to burn for sometime.. with the bush as dry as it is and a lot of terrain inaccessible to the fireys... we desperately need rain.

Many thanks go to the DSE, CFA, the pilots flying the choppers and all the fire crews who have come from far and wide to help fight these fires. They are doing a great job, working long hours out there trying to bring it to a halt.

Thank you again..  to everyone who has sent us well wishes these past couple of weeks!

BROODY HENS

It is well known amongst a lot of poultry breeders that it is uncommon for Araucana hens to become broody.
That has certainly been the case here, at The Araucana Gypsy over the past few years..  we have our trusty Silkies and Ancona's taking care of that for us.

This season has become an exception though, as we have had 3 Araucana hens become mums to their own brood of chicks, much to our delight. Hopefully we'll have some pic's up soon!
We have heard from previous customers that their hens also have the desire to become chooky mums, which can be a pain in the proverbial if you don't want this yourself.

We have quite a few cockerels for sale now rangeing in price from $10. To avoid disappointment, get in touch with us soon, as experience has shown that they won't be here long!

We have had a considerable amount of interest shown in our white birds lately, which is no surprise really as they are lovely looking poultry.
They are harder to come by than our lavenders, it is something we are working on though.

We currently have 2 young cockerels for sale (like the one shown below) - they are $50 each.

Spike, our handsome white Araucana cockerel, 3mths

A mixed dozen of white and lavender fertile araucana eggs are available now for $35 plus P&H.
They are selling fast folks and as we do only breed these lovely birds on a small scale, get your orders in asap to avoid disappointment.

Just email Jan and you will have a reply within a day or two.
